Discipleship
Disciples are not born, they are made. God gives new birth through the Son and the Spirit. The Son (Jesus Christ) charged the body of believers (the Church) to make disciples. Thus, making disciples is one of the main purposes of the Church. At Hebron we make disciples through three main ways. First, we gather for Worship. Second, we teach the pure and inerrant Word of God. Third, we provide opportunities for service.
In Worship we focus on Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. We lift Him up as Savior and Lord. We seek to glorify Him rather than man. The main components of our worship are Praise (through song), Prayer (congregational participation), and Proclamation (Biblical preaching and monthly testimonies by members of the congregation). In worship we offer ourselves and our gifts to God with thanksgiving. We proclaim the Apostle’s Creed as an excellent statement of our faith and hope. Our worship could be characterized as being folksy enough to encourage participation and traditionally formal enough to make older and younger persons feel as though they are a part of a 2000 year old movement of God’s Spirit. Our music is an expressive mix of country gospel, traditional hymnody and contemporary music. In everything we do we are Christ centered because there is no other foundation upon which our faith is built.
In our teaching ministry we employ Sunday School classes, specialized groups such as the UM Women, UM Men, UM Youth, pastor-led Bible studies and the study of books by leading Evangelical pastors and authors. We believe that the Scriptures contain all that is necessary for saving faith in Christ and instruction in living out that faith. Our goal is to educate and teach disciples of Jesus Christ in the great truths of Scripture and it’s great themes and doctrines. To this end we are ever seeking God’s vision and guidance in our ongoing teaching ministry.
In providing opportunities for serving Christ we offer many avenues. Our missions coordinator is constantly making our congregation aware of the many needs locally and around the world where we can make a difference in people’s lives. Opportunities are available through the UMMen, UMWomen, UMYouth, Helping Hands Ministry, Choir, Children’s Ministry, Nursing Home Visitation just to name some of the more visible ways we serve. New and creative ways to serve Christ are always welcome here.
Our goal is to fulfill our mission from on High: “To Share The Gospel: Share It, Live It, Love It”. We would like to invite you to join us and be a part of the family of God at Hebron.
